Step into the historic Distillery District this August as Soulpepper Theatre hosts *Revolutionary Women in Blues*, a soul-stirring tribute to the foundational mothers of modern music. Led by the incomparable Divine Brown—known for her acclaimed work in *Billie, Sarah and Ella: Revolutionary Women in Jazz*—this production shines a much-needed spotlight on the courageous, brilliant, and often overlooked women who laid the absolute groundwork for American music.
From Ma Rainey, the undisputed Mother of the Blues, to Sister Rosetta Tharpe, the fierce Godmother of Rock & Roll whose electrifying guitar playing influenced everyone from Elvis to Chuck Berry, and Bessie Smith, the towering Empress of the Blues, this concert-theatre experience is packed with history, emotion, and world-class musicianship. Divine Brown and her all-star team of backing players deliver stunning renditions of classic blues standards while weaving in the dramatic, resilient life stories of these legendary artists.
