Resonance of Dunhuang

Experience a breathtaking blend of ancient history and cutting-edge art-tech as the Hong Kong Gaudeamus Dunhuang Ensemble presents 'Resonance of Dunhuang' at the Jane Mallett Theatre on Friday, October 9, 2026. Founded in 2018, the Ensemble bridges Eastern and Western musical traditions, reimagining lost melodies originally preserved in the murals and manuscripts of the UNESCO-listed Dunhuang Mogao Caves in China.

Drawing from 25 ancient musical scores recovered from Cave 17, the performance combines traditional Chinese chamber instrumentation with immersive visual storytelling and multimedia projection. It's a rare cultural journey that brings centuries-old Silk Road history directly to Toronto's St. Lawrence neighbourhood.
