Philatelic History of Toronto Presentation by Garfield Portch

Step back in time and discover the postal roots of our city with expert Garfield Portch at the Vincent Graves Greene Philatelic Research Foundation. Generously sponsored by the foundation and hosted in their Summerhill headquarters (10 Summerhill Ave), this evening lecture dives deep into the postal history and early administration of Toronto's postal system.

What to Expect The presentation features fascinating philatelic material dating as early as 1803. Guests will learn about mail processed through Toronto's First Post Office—Canada's oldest purpose-built post office still standing—and the legacy of James Scott Howard, the city's very first postmaster. Attendees will also get an exclusive look inside the Greene Foundation's incredible research library and resources.
