Onsite Gallery at OCAD University kicks off its Fall 2026 season with a major double opening reception, celebrating the profound contributions of Indigenous artists to contemporary craft and design.
The main gallery presents 'Returning to Ourselves', a comprehensive retrospective spanning over forty years of collaborative work by Cree Métis siblings Rebecca Baird and Kenny Alvin Baird. Curated by Lisa Deanne Smith, the exhibition traverses sculpture, painting, interior design, film art direction, and public commissions, deeply rooted in Cree Métis ways of knowing and community-centred practice.
Meanwhile, the Special Projects Gallery hosts 'Michael Massie: now and then', guest-curated by Alysa Procida. Massie, a celebrated Inuk silversmith and sculptor, is internationally renowned for pushing the boundaries of Inuit art through humorous owl sculptures, intricate bowls, and iconic teapots. This exhibition brings together career-spanning highlights alongside brand-new large-scale sculptural installations that blend technical mastery with sharp political commentary and irrepressible joy.
Join curators and community members for the free opening reception on Wednesday, September 9, from 9:00 PM to 11:00 PM at 199 Richmond Street West in Old Toronto.
