Join the Toronto Holocaust Museum and the Toronto Daughters of Survivors at Cineplex Cinemas Empress Walk in North York for a powerful screening of *My Underground Mother* (2025). Directed by journalist and filmmaker Marisa Fox, the gripping documentary follows Fox as she unearths a deeply buried family secret twenty years after her mother's passing.

Not only did her mother survive a forced labour camp, but she was part of an extraordinary sisterhood of survivors who eventually settled right here in Toronto—their heavy experiences of trauma and resistance remaining largely unspoken for decades. Blending personal testimony, striking animation, and rare archival footage, the film explores the enduring echoes of the Holocaust and the profound strength found in female solidarity.

What to Expect Following the screening, director Marisa Fox will take the stage in person for an intimate audience Q&A session, diving into the emotional journey of making the film and why these testimonies remain critical today. Tickets are $18 for early birds until August 31, moving to $25 thereafter.

Getting There & Making a Night of It Located directly at the RioCan Empress complex at 5095 Yonge Street, the venue sits steps from the Yonge-North York subway station, making transit a breeze. Grab a pre-screening bite at one of the many vibrant eateries along Yonge Street in North York City Centre before heading in for a moving evening of documentary cinema.
