The Image Centre’s Student Gallery presents *Mursal Mohammadi: BAQĀ/بقا (The Unforgotten)*, a deeply personal and moving installation that explores the intergenerational impact of loss and political violence. Through a combination of film, archival photography, and textile work, Mohammadi traces the story of her uncle, who was kidnapped during the civil war in Afghanistan in 1997.
What to Expect
The exhibition is a meditation on absence and presence. At its core is a film that weaves together family archives and interviews, while a textile piece—a photograph of her uncle embroidered with traditional Afghan patterns—highlights the role of women in sustaining memory. This is an opportunity to engage with art that is both historically significant and profoundly intimate.
About the Artist
Mursal Mohammadi uses her practice to make visible the histories that are often carried in silence. By preserving family documents and oral stories, she situates personal trauma within a broader lived experience, inviting viewers to reflect on how we carry the stories of those who are no longer with us.
