MACHINAL

Thursday, March 25, 2027 – Sunday, April 25, 2027
7:30 p.m. – 11:00 p.m.
Soulpepper Theatre — Baillie Theatre
Soulpepper Theatre presents Sophie Treadwell's blistering expressionist classic, *Machinal*, on the Baillie Theatre stage at the Young Centre for the Performing Arts in the historic Distillery District.
Inspired by the real-life 1927 murder trial of Ruth Snyder, *Machinal* tells the harrowing story of a young woman trapped in the mechanical, suffocating pressures of a mechanized world, an unloving marriage, and a society that offers no escape.
### What to Expect A high-water mark of early 20th-century feminist theatre, Treadwell's play uses staccato rhythm, industrial soundscapes, and expressionist staging to mirror the dehumanizing pressures of modern life. Soulpepper's staging promises a visually striking and emotionally visceral theatrical experience.
### Venue & Neighborhood Situated at 50 Tank House Lane, the Distillery District offers an incredible backdrop for theatre-goers, featuring cobblestone streets, local artisan shops, and vibrant dining spots. Easily accessible via public transit.
