The Assembly Hall Gallery in Etobicoke is hosting 'Los Callejeros,' a thought-provoking exhibition by Toronto-based artist Jim Bravo. Drawing on his own background as an Afro-Latino and Quichua immigrant who grew up in Toronto’s downtown core, Bravo’s work offers a poignant look at the immigrant experience in Canada.
About the Artist
Jim Bravo is a celebrated figure in the local art scene, a graduate of OCAD University, and a multi-award-winning painter. His work has been recognized with the prestigious Kingston Prize for Contemporary Canadian Portraiture, and he is well-known for his contributions to the city's mural landscape. This exhibition brings together his memories of inner-city life with his unique interpretations of the Canadian landscape, creating a dialogue about race, identity, and belonging.
What to Expect
This exhibition is free to the public and runs throughout the summer. It’s a great opportunity to engage with local art in a beautiful, historic setting. The Assembly Hall Gallery is located in Etobicoke, near Colonel Samuel Smith Park, making it a perfect destination for a weekend afternoon of art and nature. Whether you are a long-time fan of Bravo’s work or looking to discover a new voice in Canadian art, this exhibition is well worth the visit.
