Ever wanted to master the art of making kimchi? Join Chef Sang Kim at the S. Walter Stewart Library for a hands-on, communal kimchi-making experience known as *Kimjang*. This workshop is a fantastic way to learn about the origins and history of traditional poggi kimchi and the cultural rituals surrounding the Kimjang process.
What to Expect
Participants will get to chop and prepare their own kimchi to take home for fermentation, so you'll leave with a delicious, homemade product. Chef Kim will also be distributing recipes, so you can continue your fermentation journey at home. Please note that the kimchi paste used in this workshop contains fish sauce and fermented baby shrimp, so it is not suitable for those with shellfish or fish allergies.
How to Register
This is an in-person program for adults, and space is limited. Registration opens on April 3, 2026. You can register online through the Toronto Public Library website or by calling the branch directly at 416-396-3975. If you require any accessibility accommodations, be sure to contact the library's Accessibility Services at least three weeks in advance. It’s a great, affordable way to learn a new culinary skill and connect with others in the East York community.
