Ever wondered how to capture the hidden sounds of the city? Join local artists Sarah Boo and Caitlin Chan for a dynamic, two-part workshop at the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre that dives deep into the world of field recording and experimental audio creation.

What to Expect This workshop is perfect for anyone curious about sound art, regardless of experience level. In the first session, you'll explore the history and techniques of field recording, including a look at Caitlin Chan’s work mapping urban cyclist soundscapes, before heading outdoors to capture your own audio.

In the second session, Sarah will guide you through the basics of audio editing using Audacity, a free software. You'll learn how to transform your raw recordings into unique audio pieces and share them with the group. It’s a fantastic opportunity to develop a new creative skill and meet fellow sound enthusiasts.

Practical Info This is a two-part workshop taking place on April 29 and May 3. Participants are encouraged to bring their own laptop and headphones. If you don't have access to a laptop, please reach out to the JCCC organizers in advance. The workshop is part of the broader SakuraFest programming at the JCCC, so be sure to check out what else is happening at the centre while you're there.
