Time1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Throughout the month of June, the Bata Shoe Museum is hosting a special series of presentations in honour of Indigenous History Month. Led by the museum’s education guides, these 30-minute sessions offer a deep dive into the unique design elements and materials used in traditional moccasin making.
Learn and Explore
The presentation, created by Indigenous Collections Advisor Justine Woods, provides important context on the museum’s repatriation initiatives and its ongoing commitment to the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP). It’s a thoughtful way to engage with the history and modern reality of Indigenous craftsmanship.
Family-Friendly Activities
Beyond the presentation, the museum has set up self-guided activity stations, making this a great outing for families. Kids can explore the galleries with an iSpy card scavenger hunt or try on shoes in the interactive area. It’s a wonderful way to highlight Indigenous culture, creativity, and creation in both historical and modern contexts.
Practical Info
Presentations take place every Saturday in June at 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm. No registration is required, making it an easy addition to your weekend plans. It’s a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon learning something new about the rich cultural heritage of our country.
