Mosaic art often feels rigid and traditional, but MaryLou Hurley is here to shatter that perception. Her latest exhibition, 'Happiness Is: Colour and Play', opens at the Dignam Gallery on April 15, 2026, offering a look at over 25 years of her inventive practice.
The Artist
MaryLou Hurley is a celebrated Canadian mosaic artist and a member of the Society of Canadian Artists. Her work is defined by a sense of curiosity and play, often utilizing unconventional surfaces like mannequins and musical instruments. In 2025, she was recognized with the Creative Innovation Award for her piece 'Miss Delphine', and this exhibition promises to showcase that same spirit of experimentation.
What to Expect
Expect a vibrant, tactile experience. Hurley’s work moves fluidly between abstraction and representation, using glass, ceramics, and found objects to build forested landscapes and sculptural figures. The exhibition is designed to be immersive, inviting viewers to see how memory and joy can be constructed from the most unexpected materials.
