Robert Munsch is the undisputed king of Canadian children's literature, and T.Y.T. Theatre is bringing his most chaotic classics to life at the Wychwood Theatre this April. This isn't a typical sit-and-listen library hour; it's a high-energy, performative storytelling session where the audience is encouraged to get loud and help bring the stories to life.
Munsch Classics Live
The show features a medley of Munsch’s greatest hits, including the bedtime battles of *Mortimer*, the messy adventures of *Mud Puddle*, the empowering wit of *The Paper Bag Princess*, and the rhythmic fun of *Jonathan Cleaned Up – Then He Heard A Sound*. These stories have been staples of Canadian childhoods for decades, and seeing them performed live adds a layer of zany energy that captures the spirit of Munsch’s writing perfectly.
The Venue and Neighbourhood
Located in the heart of the Wychwood Barns, the Wychwood Theatre is a fantastic community hub. The venue is part of a restored streetcar maintenance facility that now houses artist studios and a greenhouse. If you’re heading to a weekend show, try to time it with a visit to the nearby shops on St. Clair West. The area is incredibly walkable and features some of the city's best kid-friendly cafes.
Practical Info
The show runs approximately 50 minutes, making it the perfect length for younger children (ages 4 and up) who might struggle with longer theatrical productions. T.Y.T. Theatre is known for its accessible and engaging approach to youth programming, ensuring that even the most restless toddlers will be captivated by the 'Munsch Mayhem.' Note that reseller tickets are not accepted, so be sure to book directly through the official box office.
