The By the Lake Book Club returns to Etobicoke's scenic Assembly Hall for an engaging evening featuring Emma Knight, whose acclaimed debut novel *The Life Cycle of the Common Octopus* was shortlisted for the 2025 Scotiabank Giller Prize.

Set against the moody, atmospheric backdrop of Edinburgh, Knight’s novel follows Pen, a Canadian student navigating independence, desire, and a complex family mystery. What to Expect

Presented in partnership by the City of Toronto and Humber Polytechnic, this series brings top-tier Canadian literary talent straight to the west end.
