Twist Gallery is set to host 'Before Borders,' a compelling new exhibition featuring the collaborative photography of Ryan Bolton and Yuma Dean Hester. This project documents a journey through Northern Alberta, the Rockies, the Yukon, and the Northwest Territories, but it’s far more than a simple travelogue. It’s an exercise in listening, being present, and acknowledging the deep histories that predate the provincial lines we cross.
The Story Behind the Lens
Bolton and Hester didn't just capture landscapes; they sought out the Elders, Chiefs, and storytellers whose lives are inextricably linked to the land. The resulting images remind us that these vast, northern territories are not empty spaces, but living, breathing environments shaped by generations of knowledge and care. The exhibition invites viewers to consider travel not as an escape, but as an exchange—a way to engage with the land and the people who have called it home since time immemorial.
