Bandura on Bloor kicks off its 2026 season with a special performance by Ostap Stakhiw, a People’s Artist of Ukraine, and Toronto-based bandurist Alisa Osavelyuk. The bandura, a traditional Ukrainian string instrument, produces a hauntingly beautiful sound that is deeply rooted in the country's history and culture.
Why You Should Go
This is a rare opportunity to see a master of the bandura in an intimate setting. Ostap Stakhiw is not only a virtuoso performer but also a dedicated educator who has spent his career bridging traditional folk melodies with modern interpretations. The concert will also feature a guest performance by Alisa Osavelyuk, a talented local bandurist who has made a name for herself in the Toronto music scene. The evening will conclude with a post-concert reception, offering a chance to meet the performers and learn more about the instrument.
Supporting a Cause
All net proceeds from this event will be donated to the Guardian Angels Ukraine Fund, making this a meaningful way to enjoy beautiful music while supporting a vital cause. The concert takes place at the Ukrainian Catholic Church of the Holy Protection on Leeds Street. It’s a wonderful way to spend a Friday evening, immersed in the rich musical traditions of Ukraine.
