For those who think classical music is a thing of the past, the Glenn Gould School New Music Ensemble is here to prove otherwise. Curated and conducted by the Juno-winning composer Brian Current, this ensemble is dedicated to performing the most challenging and fascinating works of the 21st century. This April, they take the stage at the Temerty Theatre for a free performance that showcases the incredible talent of the Royal Conservatory’s top students.
Curated by Brian Current
Brian Current is one of Canada’s most respected contemporary composers, and his leadership ensures that the repertoire is always cutting-edge. The ensemble tackles works that often push the boundaries of what instruments (and performers) can do. It’s a chance to hear music that is being written right now, performed with the precision and passion that the Glenn Gould School is famous for.
The Temerty Theatre
Located within the stunning TELUS Centre for Performance and Learning, the Temerty Theatre is a 'black box' style space that offers incredible flexibility and intimacy. The acoustics are world-class, making it the perfect environment for experiencing the complex textures of new music. Because it’s a smaller venue, you feel a direct connection to the performers that you don't always get in larger concert halls.
A Free Annex Gem
The fact that these performances are free to the public is one of Toronto’s best-kept secrets. It’s an accessible way to experience high-level artistry in the heart of the Annex. After the concert, you’re just steps away from the Royal Ontario Museum or the many great restaurants along Bloor Street. If you’re curious about the future of music, this is where you’ll find it.
