Step back in time to 1705, when a young, 20-year-old Johann Sebastian Bach famously walked 400 kilometres from Arnstadt to Lübeck just to learn from the legendary composer Dietrich Buxtehude. During his three-month stay, Bach was immersed in Buxtehude’s 'Abendmusiken'—or 'Evening Concerts'—held at St. Mary’s Church.

A Musical Journey This special concert invites you to experience that same profound influence. The program highlights the musical dialogue between Buxtehude and Bach, while also introducing listeners to other key figures of the era, including Johann Christoph Bach, Graupner, Doles, Reincken, and Krebs.

What to Expect Featuring the renowned Tafelmusik Chamber Choir and members of the Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra, this performance promises to refresh your spirit and soul. Tafelmusik is a cornerstone of Toronto’s early music scene, and hearing them perform in an intimate setting is always a highlight of the season. Whether you are a dedicated fan of Baroque music or simply looking for a serene and intellectually stimulating evening, this concert is a must-attend.

Practical Info The concert takes place at 427 Bloor Street West. Given Tafelmusik's popularity, we recommend booking your tickets in advance via the Tafelmusik website to ensure you don't miss out on this evening of exquisite historical music.
